Frequently Asked Questions

Are My Photos Uploaded to a Server?

No. KiroPhotos does not upload your original photos, videos, or edited creations to servers operated by the developer. Photo browsing, organization, editing, frame and LUT processing, memory management, and photo indexing are performed primarily on your device.

Some features require online services provided by Apple or other third parties. If an original asset is stored only in iCloud, the App downloads it from your iCloud Photos library through PhotoKit. When you use maps, place search, or address lookup, Apple may process the location coordinates or search terms necessary to provide those features. Content is sent to an app or recipient you select only when you actively use the system sharing feature. None of these situations means that your photos are uploaded to servers operated by the developer.

Where Are My Photos and Data Stored?

Original photos, videos, and saved creations are stored in the Apple system Photos library. If you have enabled iCloud Photos, they are also stored in and synchronized with iCloud according to your Apple settings.

Photo indexes, memories, editing information, app settings, and imported LUTs generated by KiroPhotos are stored in the App's local sandbox. Thumbnails, previews, and temporary export files are local caches that you can clear in the App's settings.

Uninstalling the App generally deletes indexes, memories, settings, caches, and imported LUTs from the App's sandbox. It does not delete photos or files already saved in the system Photos library, Files app, other apps, or cloud services. Clearing the cache also does not delete photos from the system Photos library.

What Is the Difference Between LUTs and Styles?

A Style is a preset combination of adjustment parameters created by KiroPhotos, such as exposure, contrast, saturation, temperature, highlights, shadows, sharpening, and vignette. It provides a quick way to apply several common adjustments at once, while still allowing you to fine-tune each parameter under Adjust afterward.

A LUT is a set of color-mapping rules that transforms the colors in an original image into another set of colors, typically to create a more consistent or distinctive look. KiroPhotos includes built-in LUTs and also supports importing compatible 3D .cube LUT files.

You can use a Style and a LUT together and adjust the intensity of either. In simple terms, a Style is a group of adjustment parameters that you can continue to fine-tune, while a LUT applies a fixed color mapping and overall tonal transformation.

Where Do Deleted Photos Go, and How Can I Recover Them?

When you select Delete Photo in KiroPhotos, the deletion is performed by the Apple system Photos library. The photo usually moves to the Recently Deleted album in the Photos app and remains there for approximately 30 days. The exact remaining time is shown by the system. If you use iCloud Photos, the deletion may also synchronize to other devices signed in to the same Apple Account.

To recover a photo, open the system Photos app, go to Recently Deleted under Albums or Utilities, authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode, select the photo, and tap Recover. KiroPhotos cannot recover a photo after the system retention period has expired or after it has been permanently deleted from Recently Deleted.

If you select Remove from Album while viewing an album, the photo is removed only from that album and remains in the system Photos library. Only Delete Photo removes the asset from the photo library.

Why Are Addresses for Overseas Locations Incomplete?

When you use the App in mainland China, Apple's address lookup service does not support resolving detailed addresses for locations abroad. An overseas photo may therefore show only a country or region even if it has location coordinates. If you complete address lookup while abroad, the result is saved on your device and remains available after you return to mainland China. We will consider other ways to improve address information for overseas locations.

Why Aren't Newly Added Photos Appearing in My Time Collection?

When a Time Collection automatically gathers photos of selected people, newly added photos appear only after an image recognition task scans them and assigns them to those people. Scanning may take some time. If a photo is not recognized and assigned to a person, you can use Add Photos in the Time Collection to add it manually.

Why Is the Same Person Split into Several People?

People are grouped automatically from image recognition results. Differences in camera angle, lighting, occlusion, or age can make the same person look different across photos, causing separate groups. Open the People list, tap Select, choose the people you want to combine, then choose Merge from the More menu and select the person to keep.

Why Are There No Videos in People?

The People feature does not currently display videos, so videos will not appear in a person's photo list. Support for videos will be added in a future version.

Why Does Background Scanning Fail or Take So Long to Finish?

On iOS 26 and later, you can manually choose Run in Background. This uses a system continued processing task (Continue Task), which can start while the App is in the foreground and continue after you leave the App or lock your device. However, iOS decides whether the task can be submitted and how long it may run. The App cannot guarantee that it will keep running.

Earlier iOS versions do not support this continued processing task. Instead, the App uses ordinary background scans scheduled by the system, which also decides when each scan starts and ends. Image recognition takes time, and a large photo library is less likely to finish in a single background run. For best results, keep the App in the foreground with the screen unlocked, or allow background scanning to make progress over multiple runs.

Why Do Categories and Search Show So Many Unrelated Photos?

Categories and search use similarity scores from image recognition to find photos, and the results are not always accurate. You can raise the Match Threshold for a category rule or the Similarity threshold in search to reduce low-similarity results. A threshold set too high may also exclude relevant photos. Different category rules and search queries may need different thresholds, so adjust them based on the results.
